DPB

through the years

Since its founding in 1998, DPB has established itself as a brand internationally. Over the years, a small team has grown into a large corporate group, and DPB continues to be characterized by a family-like atmosphere.

The company's initial focus was on conventional peripheral and inner-city pipeline construction, cable laying technology, and alternative pipeline construction. Construction projects from 1999 included collaborations with Telekom Austria AG, Steirische Ferngas AG, Steweag Graz, OÖ Ferngas, ÖBB HL-AG, VATECH Elin EBG, ABB, and Siemens Austria.

Today, 26 years after the founding of DPB GmbH, the DPB Group can almost 700 employees at various locations throughout Austria, Germany and Hungary!

DPB GmbH Beginnings

By its inception in 1999, DPB already employed 60 people, deployed throughout almost all of Austria. Their specialties were, and still are, the construction of trenches for laying various pipelines, as well as trenchless pipe jacking and other alternative installation methods.

The shareholders then founded an independent company with extensive experience in the field of cable construction. The company's initial focus was on innovative drilling and new cable laying techniques that meet individual customer requirements.

DPB ploughs through Lake Neusiedl

DPB ploughs through Lake Neusiedl

One of the first projects involved laying underwater pipelines through Lake Neusiedl. The requirements were: installing two PE 2 pipes in a continuous trench with a 50 m cover over a length of 1,1 m through Lake Neusiedl. The soil consisted of compact to hard clay covered by a 3.300 cm thick layer of mud. Furthermore, the construction work had to fully meet the national park's stringent environmental requirements.

DPB proved to be the only company capable of taking on the challenges and developing the ideal concept. Due to our specialists' many years of experience, crossing the lake was only possible with a special excavator. For this reason, the machine was transported from the Baltic Sea to Burgenland. Natural conditions further complicated the construction work on site: mud thicknesses between 1,2 m and 2,5 m, ice formation, war relics, etc. All of these problems nearly led to the failure of the project.

Despite these difficulties, the fiber optic cable through Lake Neusiedl was completed in a very short time. After exactly six days of effective construction, the project, along with all documents and data logs, was handed over to the client.

Data highway: From Thörl Maglern to Graz

Data highway: From Thörl Maglern to Graz

DPB took over the implementation of the project "A data highway from Graz to Thörl Maglern" as general contractor. From route planning and obtaining permits from property owners and authorities, through planning, project management, and logistics, to the installation of 11 empty conduits – all in just 123 days. Within 42 days of the contract being awarded, the data highway was fully planned, thus completing the first phase. Further records were to follow during the construction phase: The fiber optic cable runs directly over the Koralpe and was, at the time, the highest data highway in Austria.

The DPB employees also performed at their best in terms of efficient logistics: a total of 1.300 cable drums, each with a diameter of 3,2 m, had to be transported to their exact installation location.

The contract was awarded on June 6, 2000. Just a few months later – on November 30, 2000 – the entire project was completed and the digital documentation was handed over to the client.
