Tunnel Technology
We take care of both the construction of systems and their maintenance.
This ensures safety on roads, tunnels and in railway areas at all times!
About the department
DPB GmbH is proud to look back on a multitude of successful projects in the field of tunnel construction. Our Tunnel Technology Department offers comprehensive solutions for all electrical and mechanical equipment in tunnels. We cover the motorway and expressway network, federal and state roads, municipal roads, and the railway sector. In addition to our services as a full-service provider for tunnel equipment, we also construct a wide variety of infrastructure outside of the tunnel. This includes emergency call systems, ice warning systems, traffic and route control systems, as well as traffic control stations, lighting systems, and the associated copper and fiber optic infrastructure. We take care of both the construction and maintenance of these systems. This ensures safety on roads, tunnels, and in the railway sector at all times.
Projects
Koralm Tunnel section Feldkirchen – Weitendorf
This project is a central component of our reference projects in the railway sector. With a total length of 19 km, this project encompasses the final section of the Koralm Railway in Styria. The technical highlight is the new 3 km underground route. In a joint venture with Porr INFA and Porr Bau, the open-air area is being equipped with control and safety technology. The portfolio also includes the equipment for the technical buildings, emergency exits, the electronic interlocking system, and the overhead line signaling buildings, as well as the tunnel equipment itself.
Ofenauer Hiefler Tunnel & Werfen Tunnel Group
The five tunnels on the A10 Tauern Autobahn are being upgraded to state-of-the-art electrical and mechanical technology. Both the planning and execution, in one of the shortest implementation phases currently available on the motorway and road network, are challenging. Phase one was successfully completed with the opening for summer travel in 2024. Phase two will begin in September 2024 and conclude with full opening to traffic in June 2025.
Trebesing enclosure
This project involved the electrical renovation of the Trebesing enclosure. The upgrade of the tunnel lighting to the latest LED technology, the modernization of the distribution systems, emergency call systems, cross-passage doors, and many other technical systems, which were brought up to date, are now making an important contribution to the safety of the transport infrastructure.
Karawanks Tunnel
This project involved the electrical renovation of the Trebesing enclosure. The upgrade of the tunnel lighting to the latest LED technology, the modification of the distribution systems, emergency call systems, cross-passage doors, and many other state-of-the-art technical systems are now making an important contribution to the safety of the transport infrastructure.
Traffic control point Kuchl
This project is an example of the extensive services beyond tunnel projects being implemented by the DPB. The project is located on the A10 Tauern Autobahn in the Salzburg area. The traffic control station is used by the police to inspect vehicles for technical defects and to ensure that their loads are secured. These measures required the installation of an electronic diversion system, lighting systems for parking and traffic areas, infrastructure and sensors for the vehicle height measurement devices, the electrical connection of the weighing device for measuring vehicle weight, the provision of LED lighting for initial visual inspections in the approach areas (canopies), and the electrical equipment for police administrative activities.
Internal projects
In addition to our tunnel construction projects, we are also engaged in a variety of in-house projects. These include the expansion and conversion of electrical systems in Krieglach at our sister company, DPB Rail Technical Service GmbH, the comprehensive energy supply concept at our headquarters in Poggersdorf, and the complete electrical equipment for the new office building in Feldkirchen near Graz, which is being provided from a single source, from conception and planning to execution.
With our extensive experience and dedicated team, we are ideally equipped to successfully complete challenging projects in the future. Contact us for more information or to discuss your next construction project with us.
