Ofenauer Hiefler Tunnel and Werfen Tunnel Group
In this project, the entire “interior” and the complete safety equipment of the tunnel systems were renewed.
The escape routes and cross passages in the tunnel have been equipped with state-of-the-art technology (escape doors, ventilation, emergency call system, energy-efficient LED lighting). The fire water supply has been completely renewed, with three new fire water tanks ensuring a supply in the event of a fire. Innovative tunnel LED lighting and clear guidance systems improve visibility and orientation for drivers.
In addition, all emergency call systems were modernized and an acoustic monitoring system was installed. Advanced microphones detect unusual noises such as squealing tires, shattering glass, or impact noises and automatically trigger a tunnel closure in the event of danger. In addition, the newly implemented video surveillance with a detection system ensures rapid detection of risks such as traffic jams, slow-moving vehicles, or people on the road.
The ventilation systems were also equipped with modern technology to optimally remove exhaust fumes and smoke from the tunnel and ensure personal safety. Fire extinguishing niches were newly constructed and equipped with firefighting equipment. In addition, full-graphic LED information panels inform drivers in the event of hazards or disruptions to ensure maximum safety in the tunnel.
In total, in the 1st phase:
- 11 traffic sign bridges
- 66 LED panels
- 7000 pcs. fiber optic splice
- 605 escape route orientation lights and curb lighting
- 500.000 m of cables and lines installed.
In addition to the work not mentioned above, a large number of additional steps were taken to ensure that the road was opened to traffic on time. Currently, in about six months, 17 million euros installed.
The second phase with the same scope started in September 2024 and ends with the opening to traffic on June 26.06.2025, XNUMX.
